2005 Annual Report (Summary)
For Full Report (Printer Friendly) see Bottom of Page

The renewal of Alamosa Presbyterian Church calls for a ministry plan. The plan of our Session is to focus on Church growth goals: we started with a focus on worship and music. The goal for 2006 is more visits followed by new, small relational groups. Part of the ministry plan is the ministry team, and this has been our Worship Team which has devoted a lot of effort and made a success of our Contemporary Worship Service.

The key index of Church growth is attendance. In 2003, our average total attendance was 47. In 2004, it was 51. In 2005, it was 57. I continue to be impressed by the spiritual energy in our Contemporary Worship Service, and by the dedication of the Worship Team to planning and evaluation.

Our Church has been blessed with the best Trustees of any Church in Alamosa. This Board not only meets monthly. After our meeting is over we get up and work. Our major challenge emerged at the end of the year with the roof leakage over the flat portion of the building. Our "Roof Fund" began in November. At the March to the Manger Offering, December 18, we collected over $4,000. Through the end of the year, we collected a total of $8,076.50. I think that s awesome. We should also be proud that, if we don t count the Roof Fund sum, finished the year with a $3,810 surplus.

Last year on this page, we quoted the consensus that is emerging about redeveloping Presbyterian Churches across the country. "A redeveloping church, over a period of five or six years, finds confidence in itself and assumes ownership of its ministries, so that more and more people are taking roles in leadership. Change does take time, but modest growth can be expected." The key word in all that is "confidence," one of my own (and John Calvin s) favorite words, because it means "with faith." "Fidelity" is at the heart of our congregational identity Fidelity is what we are carrying into our future.

Respectfully submitted,
Pastor Tex Russell
